Access Keys

Access keys are a navigation device enabling you to get around the Mike Devenney Scholarship Fund information web site using your keyboard, independent of a mouse or user-controlled pointing device.
They can be used to jump to different sections of content throughout the site

How to use Access Keys


Internet Explorer 5+ (PC)
Hold down the ALT key, press the number or letter of the access key, release both keys then press ENTER

Internet Explorer 4 (PC)
Hold down the ALT key and press the number or letter of the access key

Internet Explorer 5+ (Mac)
Hold down the CTRL key and press the number or letter of the access key

Internet Explorer 4.5 (Mac)
Access keys are not supported

Netscape 6 and earlier (PC and Mac)
Not supported

Netscape 7 (PC)
Hold down the ALT key and press the number or letter of the access key

Mozilla (PC)
Hold down the ALT key and press the number or letter of the access key

Mozilla (Mac)
Hold down the CTRL key and press the number or letter of the access key

Safari and Omniweb (Mac)
Hold down the CTRL key and press the number or letter of the access key

Improving Color Contrast
From the menu bar at the top, pull down the Tools menu.
Select Internet Options.
Click on the Colors button that is near the bottom.
Deselect "Use Windows colors" (click to get rid of the check mark in the box).
Click on the color that you wish to modify (text, background or links).
Click on the desired color from the color palette.
Click on Ok once to return to the Colors menu.
Click on Ok again when you've completed your modifications.
With the second click, the colors on your screen should change.
Experiment with a variety of combinations until you find the one that is most comfortable for reading on-screen.
Increasing Font Size
From the menu bar at the top, pull down the View menu.
Select Text Size.
There are 5 choices, ranging from smallest to largest.
Select a new font style.
Again, some experimentation is necessary.

Improving Color Contrast
From the menu bar at the top, pull down the view menu.
Select Internet Options.
Click on the Colors button that is near the bottom.
Deselect "Use Windows colors" (click to get rid of the check mark in the box).
Click on the color that you wish to modify (text, background or links).
Click on the desired color from the color palette.
Click on Ok once to return to the Colors menu.
Click on Ok again when you've completed your modifications.
With the second click, the colors on your screen should change.

From the menu bar at the top, pull down the View menu.
Select Internet Options.
Click on the Font button that is near the bottom.
Use the pull-down Font Size menu to select a new size. There are 5 choices, ranging from smallest to largest.
Use the pull-down Proportional Font menu to select a new font style.
When you've made your selections, click on the Ok button.
Again, some experimentation is necessary .

Click on Colors, which is listed under Appearences on the left side of the dialog box.
Deselect "system colors"(click to get rid of the check mark in the box).
Click on the color that you wish to modify (text, background or links).
Click on the desired color from the color palette.
Click Ok
Increasing Font Size
From the menu bar at the top, pull down the Edit menu.
Select Preferences.
Click on Fonts, which is listed under Appearances.
Choose a font size from the options listed.
Click on the desired font size from the pull-down menu.
Click Ok.
You have many options when it comes to font size. Try a couple of different sizes in order to determine the best for you.

Click on the desired color from the color palette.
Click Ok once to return to the Colors menu.
Click Ok again when you've completed your modifications.
With the second click, the colors on your screen should change.
Experiment with a variety of combinations until you find the one that is most comfortable for reading on-screen.
Once you've tested and selected the combination that gives you the easiest legibility, you can select (click on) "Always use my colors, overriding document."
Increasing Font Size
From the menu bar at the top, pull down the Editmenu.
Select Preferences.
Double-click on Fonts, which is listed under Appearances. (If Fonts does not appear, double-click on Appearances, which should bring up Fonts).
Use the pull-down Variable Fixed Font menu to change font style.
Use the Size menu next to it to change font size.
Once you've arrived at a comfortable solution, select the first radio button: "Use My Default Fonts, Overriding Document-Specified Fonts."

Select General Prefrences.
Click on the Colors tab.
Click on the "Choose Color" button for the color that you wish to modify (text, background or links).
Click on the desired color from the color palette.
Click Ok once to return to the Colors menu.
Once you've made your selections, be sure the "Always Use My Colors, Overriding Document" box is checked.
Click Ok again.
With the second click, the colors on your screen should change.
Experiment with a variety of combinations until you find the one that is most comfortable for reading on-screen.
Increasing Font Size
From the menu bar at the top, pull down the Options menu.
Select General Prefrences.
Click on the Font tab.
Click on the "Choose Font" button that is next to "Use the Fixed Font."
Select Font and Size (Style is best left set to Regular).
When you've made your selections, click OK twice.

AOL 4.0

Increasing Text Size
Under My AOL in the AOL Toolbar, select Preferences.
Then click on the WWW icon in the scrolling list on the left.
On the right, click on Advanced Settings. A dialog box will appear with a collecting of controls on the right and a column of options on the left.
Select the option called Browser Display on the left.
You can set the Text Size to Large or Largest for more comfortable reading.
Click the OK button in the Advanced Settings dialog box and then click the OK button in the Preferences dialog box to make your new settings take effect.
